step 1
part 1Types of media:
sound files
billboards
news paper
news on tv
radio
internet
press
part 2 purpose of media:
to inform
to entertain
to persuade
to explain
part 3 influence:
media trys to make people hear what they want to hear
scares/tricks people into doing/thinking things
social, political, and economic factors
personal opinions
part 4:
people who are not represented by these media stories are
effected by feeling angry, it can also make someone who was not
represented look bad.
step 2
part 1: it made it look like the Iraqis tore down the statue, when really international journalists and soldiers tore the statue down.
part 2: religion:97% Muslim, 3% Christan/other, government:republic social, major cities:Baghdad, Mosul, and Basrah, social structures:mostly in tribes,
part 3:In R.M.N. tells about the effect of what happened because of the Muslim woman. The S.M.H. tells about Hussein and his rise to power. However
they are both about the same event.
part 4:Some of the choices made because of the pictures were with the S.M.H. it shows a picture of the statues head, so they were trying to say how bad
of a person Hussein was. The other one had a picture of a woman and so they are telling about something she did.
part 5:It effected my understanding of the event by making it seem as though we took over/concord Iraq. It confused me because one article talked about the
bringing down of the statue and the other talked about the final wishes of a Muslim woman.
part 6:They switched the flags to appeal to different parts of the world. They took a close up of people cheering after the statue came down. To appeal to
certain parts of the world so they seemed to be on their side.
part 7:Because they wanted to show their perspective on the different sides of the story.
part 8:It made us feel sympathetic and it also made it seem that the American solders were just helping and not doing it all them self's.
part 9:The people who are effected the most are the people who the article is about. For example, the one ware the American solders put the flag on the head
of the Hussein statue made it look like we "concurred" Iraq so we were effected by making us believe in something that was not true.
part 10:It might. I think its possible because future generations won't know the entire truth and they will go off of the article and image.
step 3
part 1: a) The image on the RMN almost dominates most of the article with little writing, making it the main focus of the article. The image on SMH takes over most of the article as well, but it also has quite a bit of writing around it so its not necessarily the main focus of the article. b) The RMN uses a large font for the main title which made it stick out, it also had a red bullet with a large bold font. The SMH had a large bold title but the rest of the font size was small and hard to read from a small distance. c) The RMN had a small part of the paper set a side for the article, where as the SMH gave the article the main part of the paper and it was large.
part 2: The audience for the RMN is the USA. The audience for the SMH is Australia.
part 3: I think that the Iraqis side of the story is not being told. There is nothing about what they think of the whole situation, or of what they did. They Syrians side is not being told either. It doesn't say much about how they are involved and it doesn't say anything about what they think.
step 4
part 1: The Muslims are now treated unkindly because everyone is blaming 9/11 on all Muslims when only a few did it. The media made it seem like it was all the Muslims who caused 9/11 and for that reason they were often harmed in some was shape or form because of their religion or genealogy.
part 2: Yes they made it seem as though it was all the Muslims fault.
part 3: They are still multicultural, they might just not agree with all cultures.
part 4: It effected my view of the Muslim and Iraqi population by showing that the media hasn't shown us both side of the story, so we don't know their perspective and so we shouldn't judge them without knowing both sides of the story.
part 5: Yes, it has shown me more about how the media only shows it so we only show things to please its viewers.
part 6: I think it has altered the historical accuracy of this event by making people see it one way instead of how it really happened. Yes, I belive that the media has helped change/"shape" history in many ways.
