What it symbolized for Orwell
what it symbolized for me
Rats and Rabbits
external image rabbit-picture.jpg
beggars, theifs, and gypsies are what the rats and rabbits represent. Also they are not considered comrades like the other animals. They are the only wild animals on the farm.

The rats and rabbits are the wild animals that live on the farm. The seem to represent beggars, thieves and gypsies. During the first animal meeting, a vote is taken on whether or not these creatures should be considered as 'comrades'. It is decided that they should be included as 'animals'.
For me I think the wild animals mean that they were poor people in society and were not treated like they were important. They may be the people that we shun in our society. The people may not be bad but our assumptions can take over and make it seem as though they are the lower part of the average life.

Also they make me think of some of the scary people downtown. Some make me feel like... wow they are scary and they don't act like an average human so they are not welcome in society.
drinking of Alcohol
external image woman_drinking_water.jpg
Even though the animals stated in the commandments that no animal should drink alcohol the pigs later in the novel did. For Orwell he believe that the drinking of alcohol is a metaphor for the intoxicating effects of power

After the revolution it is decided that animals should never again consume alcohol. After a short time, the pigs ignored began to break this cardinal rule. This is a metaphor for the intoxicating effects of power.
This relates to the people of power in our society that are power hungry. Sometimes people will even kill for power and when you drink alcohol you are intoxicated and can do stupid things like people with power do.

Also this makes me think of alcoholics who messed up their lives, but are trying to turn it around. I think the only reason i think of this is because it involves alcohol but that is what i think.
Selling of the Wood the Fredrick
external image 300px-Taxus_wood.jpg
For Orwell the selling of the wood to Fredrick represented the Nazi- Soviet pack during WWII
For me it represented the way people can be wishy-washy and say no ill never do that but then go ahead and do it. This kind of reminds me of my sisters.
Squealer
external image newspaper_bw_1302514860243.jpg
For Orwell Squealer was used to represent the Russian media which spread false truth around.

This pig represents the Russian media, which spread Stalin's version of the truth to the masses.
For me Squealer represented a rumor weed. He spread lies with a little truth mixed in but never really told the whole truth. Also he could make people believe anything which makes me think he is even more powerful then Napoleon. To me Napoleon just uses Squealer for his dirty work.
Animal Farm the Book
external image animal_farm.jpg
For Orwell the book represented Russian Revolution, what Orwell believes will happen to any society because of power hungry people. Rich to Poor
For me it represented Newspaper club on the 13th of October. This is because everyone was complaining and yelling. I felt like I had no say and that if didn't get way would still not drop the subject....

He also stated the Snowball was no better then a criminal because of his hopes and dreams of the windmill. I think it is a good propaganda techince because it states that the real power belongs to Napolean even though Napolean is turning into a dictator.

Question 6:Who does Boxer's motto shape his character.
Answer: I will work harder has shaped Boxer's character into being a follower more then a leader. Under Jones rule he was the always trusting, get the work done horse. Answer: This is because they changed the constitution in the night when the animals couldn't see or remember the original ones. Also they had power and if you didn't let the pigs do what they wanted they would kill you.

Question 9: why didn't the animals complain about the pigs waking up one hour later then everyone else?
