Location can be either relative or absolute. Location can be of a person or a place.
Relative:when you describe a place by direction, time, other things in the area, or by the landmarks.
Absolute:absolute is the exact location of a place. to do this you can use an address or latitude and longitude.
REGION
A region is an area that has unity in the language, the government, and sometimes the land. There are three main types of regions.
Formal regions:They are defined by governmental or administrative boundaries. The physical regions also fall under this category.
Functional regions:These are defined by the functions. If there is no function there then there is no region there.
Vernacular:Are loosely defined by peoples perception of the region.
PLACE
Places have human and physical characteristics and pictures. Physical characteristics are things like lakes, mountains, or valleys. Human characteristics are things man-made like roads, houses, buildings, and our food habits. The image that people get of a placed is usually from expeiriences. When people describe places it reveals their perceptions and values.
MOVEMENT
The movement of people, goods, ideas, and trends all affect how we live. When people travel from place to place they communicate. That is why new ideas, inventions and trends get around and get popular. i.e. When the trend of skinny jeans started it was most likely because a few people started wearing it and when other people saw it started a fad. That is the same for ideas and inventions.
HUMAN/ENVIROMENTAL INTERACTIONS
Human/Environmental interaction is basically how humans and the environment affect each other. The three key concepts in this are: 1. When humans adapt the environment, 2. When humans modify the environment, and 3. When humans depend on the environment. i.e. We depend on the river for electricity. We adapt to the cold weather with the appropiate clothing. We modify the environment when we build new houses.
